We grab a pen, a mic, paint brush, camera and more to express the sometimes inexpressible. From the front lines there is a continuous cry for the advancement of humanity and the protection of Mother Earth. To those women in our cities, towns and villages whose lives are constantly under threat or worse silenced forever. We remember you, we honor you and we will continue the work. This self-portrait is from the series “I Can’t Breathe” in collaboration with Abrazos Army Artists Alliance. The gas mask a tool against the onslaught of environmental hazards affecting us to the inhumane use of tear gas against women, students, workers and communities who stand up against oppression. I wear a red bandana on my head to remember the missing and the murdered Hermana’s. The green pendant around my neck represents Atabey (Mother Earth). May we continue to rise for the peace and dignity of future generations.
