That plant is my mother. She thrives in the sun in the window of my apartment in New York City, protecting me from peering eyes. I’ve cared for her and her offspring for 23 years. She is the soil, and her roots grow deep. Her green infuses itself within my art. I connect and expand on her life and mine each time I photograph myself.
We become our mothers, us artists, resisting at first only to have our creators become our best creations.
